Chelsea new signing Timo Werner signed out from RB Leipzig in the best possible way helping his side to a 2-1 victory over Augsburg on Saturday. The 24-year-old is expected to join Chelsea after sealing a £53million move earlier in the month.
He showed his predatory instincts in the match and broke the Leipzig all-time scoring record in the process. He netted the opener dribbling past Augsburg stopper Tomas Koubek and scoring into an empty net 30 minutes into the game. That goal took him past Daniel Frahn’s long-standing record at the club.
Augsburg rallied and got an equaliser and it was no surprise that it was Werner that won the game for the hosts with 10 minutes remaining on the clock, beating the offside trap before slotting home from a tight angle.
The German forward would be leaving the German club with an impressive goal tally of 95 goals in 159 matches. Chelsea fans will be hoping that he has a similar impact in the Premier League as they look to challenge next season.
