Liverpool are still interested in Sporting Lisbon ace Nuno Mendes despite the youngster signing a new deal. The 18-year-old wonderkid signed a new deal with Sporting Lisbon at the beginning of the month bit is still on the radar of the Reds.
Mendes has enjoyed a breakthrough campaign on the left side of the defence and is regarded as one of the exciting prospects in the Portuguese League. His performances have naturally grabbed the attention of top clubs.
Local media CM Journal reports that Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is a fan of the defender and was impressed with his performance during Sporting’s 2-0 victory over Tondela last week. The report further claims that the defender is lined as a longterm replacement for Andrew Robertson.
The Reds would have to splash the cash as Mendes new contract includes a £40m release clause. Mendes is a talented one to watch out for and has the ability to develop into an exciting fullback.
It would be interesting to see whether the Reds would make a move for the defender in the summer.
