The Gunners defeat bitter rivals, Tottenham Hotspur, 4-2,  in a feisty encounter at the Emirates.

One of the most heated North London Derbies for some years resulted in 6 yellow cards, a red card and tensions rising between the players.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang opened the scoring with a penalty which sent Hugo Lloris the wrong way. Once Aubameyang scored, he followed this up by doing his front flip celebration in front of the Spurs fans. One Spurs fan threw a banana skin at Aubamaeyang and has consequently now been arrested and banned from future games.

Tottenham level

A glancing header by Eric Dier equalled the score. He proceeded to “shush” the Arsenal fans which resulted Arsenal and Tottenham players gathering together and grabbing each other. Arsenal players on the bench were getting involved and holding and pushing Tottenham players. This is the passion of the North London Derby!

Shortly after this, Heung Min Son dived inside the penalty area and deceived referee, Mike Dean, into awarding a penalty. Kane scored the penalty and now Tottenham had completely turned the game around, very much against the run of play, it has to be said.

The old clichè – “Substitutions change games!”

At half time, Unai Emery made two bold substitutions; bringing off Alex Iwobi and Hnerikh Mkhitaryan and replacing them with Ramsey and Lacazette. This proved to be a great decision by the Spaniad.

In the second half, Arsenal started on the front foot and were pushing hard for an equaliser. Aaron Ramsey found Pierre Emerick Aubameyang a good 25 yards from goal, while the ball was rolling to the Gabon striker, he hit it a finesse shot with such ferocity that Hugo Lloris was left flat footed, only able to watch the ball fly past him.

Arsenal regained their lead when Alex Lacazette’s shot deflected off none other than Eric Dier to trickle into the bottom left corner. Arsenal loved this as it was karma on Dier for shushing the fans.

Torreira, yet again, the difference

Eric Dier, again, helped Arsenal to yet another goal. Lucas Torreira made a brilliant curving run in behind the English defender, Aubameyang looked up and saw the Uruguayan in space, helped the ball forward but Dier couldn’t intercept it. Torreira kept his nerve and blasted the ball into the bottom left corner to score his first ever goal for the Arsenal. The stadium erupted with noise, flares were let off and Tottenham were now ruing being so arrogant before half time when they took the lead.

Arsenal saw the game out well and limited Spurs to no opportunities at all.

The full time whistle went and Arsenal, yet again, defied many critics and pundits to put in a superb performance which sees them leapfrog Spurs in the league.
