New Dunfermline Athletic signing Myles Hippolyte hopes to win over Pars fans following several nasty encounters playing against the Pars.

Hippolyte, 23, has been a villain to Pars fans for several seasons, so it may come as a shock to many that he has penned a two-year-deal with the Fifers.

The Englishman’s ex club is Athletic’s fiercest rivals, Falkirk, and in April last year Hippolyte dived in the penalty box to win a penalty which saw Falkirk beat the Pars 1-2.

This simulation sparked anger amongst the players and supporters of Dunfermline and even the clubs official Twitter account tweeted the video of Hippolyte’s hysterics with a ‘diver’ emoji.

The challenge that saw Hippolyte throw himself down

The announcement of Hippolyte’s arrival at the club on social media yesterday was greeted with a lot of criticism but Hippolyte hopes he can get the fans on his side.

“The plan is to hit the ground running with a couple of good performances. Even if you have never played for a rival team, there will be some fans who don’t think you are right or ready for their team.

“There will be people to win over and I look forward to that challenge. I would like to think I can win over the fans with my performances. I want to prove my worth to the supporters here. Hopefully, I can do that.”

Hippolyte says he is confident that he can fit into a dressing room with players who he used to wind up in his Falkirk days.

“That was then – and now we are all in the same dressing room and we all have the same drive.

“It doesn’t make a difference to me what anyone said before, it’s all about how we are towards each other going forward. I can’t wait to work with all the boys.”
