West Ham United completed the signing of Issa Diop from Toulouse on a five-year contract for a club record fee of £21.9m beating the fee for Marko Arnautović last season.

The U21 French centre-back is one of the most highly rated young defenders in Europe so for The Hammers to get this deal over the line is a real coup. His 85 club appearances in all competitions for Toulouse is worth noting at the age of just 21.

Diop said: “I am very happy to sign for such a historic English club, and I hope to show my best here. I am a very ambitious player and West Ham is a very ambitious club, as we’ve seen with the appointment of the new coach”.

The Irons appointed experienced manager Manuel Pellegrini in May after David Moyes left the club.

The Hammers conceded a total of 68 Premier League goals in 2017/2018 but the signing of Diop is a real statement of intent, not just for the upcoming season but for the future as well.
